Welcome to the 'Ourgenes' Website

This website is designed to enable our Family to understand it's roots, who their ancestors were, and their place in the landscape of history.

It is also designed to enable others to look at the information gathered here, to enjoy the history contained within, and maybe, to find connections between families, which can be quite exciting for the ever growing number of people seeking their own family history.

Generally, only the generations up to about 1900 are covered in this website. As the site develops later generations and more detail will be added. Sections of other surname trees are being researched and will be added in due course.

Following the threads of the various elements of the family tree could be quite difficult. Therefore, only a limited amount of information is displayed on a page. Various tags have been added to the tree to enable access to more information and other threads of the tree, as and when you want to explore them.

Key:

A blue line indicates a link by marriage.

A red line with a link attached indicates a link that can be clicked on to go to a tree or family displayed on another page.

A link similar to that shown left, leads to more information, including census returns, about that particular family group.

This type of link leads to biographical life stories about the person.

Biographical Information on this Person

Telling the story of individual people and families: Biographical information is taken from various census returns, stories, newspapers, and anecdotes known within the family. The census return information is copied directly from the return and reflects how the detail of entries varied from area to area, census to census. The information in the early census returns was basic. More recently the information increased.

Notes on census information:

bullet

Many citizens were recorded as 'Ag Lab', which is short for Agricultural Labourer. The quantity of people with this occupation indicates how many relied on the land and farming for their income, which is quite different to the situation today.

bullet

The information on a census return varies in detail and accuracy. The census return information is replicated on the website to reflect the various original returns.

bullet

Some census returns on the various websites are very poor reproductions, the ink on the original has become faded over the years, or the writing is illegible, in those cases the missing word(s) are identified thus; [illegible].

bullet

Where information has been transposed from written into typed entries, mistakes can be made.
