Notes: Louisa was born in 1854 but unusually was not baptised until 4 September 1859, at St Nicholas' Parish Church in Leckford, Hampshire, England, being baptised the same day as her brother Henry. She lived with her parents at the Seven Stars Inn at Testcombe. It is unusual for people of the time to marry someone from outside their own area, so how did she meet William Webb? Did he visit the inn one day and meet his future wife?

Frederick is born c1895 at a similar time to Louisa dying which raises the interesting question, did she die giving birth to Frederick?

bullet

William has found a new wife, born outside the area, she is much younger than him, but by the time of this census they have a new daughter, Ellen. After a bit of research it looks as though William has married his bride in Bradfield, near Reading, in March 1897. Did they have any more children after 1901?

bullet

Joseph Webb is not mentioned but he is still living in Chippenham with his Dad's brothers and sisters. (See Webb Tree

bullet

Elsie is not listed in 1901, she would be 12 years old by now, so where is she? (See below.)

The head of the household at the Post Office is William's mother, now a widow, and Ellen is his sister.

bullet

Elsie is shown as being born in Fullerton, whose railway station, Fullerton Junction, now disused, is just down the road from the Seven Stars Inn. Perhaps Sarah, her Grand Mother,  was a bit confused when the form was filled in.

bullet

Sarah's husband William is no more but she is still living in the same house.

bullet

Sarah is a Laundress, but it is her own business which she is running from home.

Notes:
bullet Kelly's Directory of 1899 in the entry for Wherwell, shows the Seven Stars Inn at Testcombe Bridge, in the ownership of William James Webb, and a similar entry is entered in the 1903 edition. However, by 1907 the Seven Stars is owned by Frederick Tickner.

Notes:
bulletJoseph Owen Webb is buried in Chilbolton church yard. He died on 23 September 1910. His headstone says that he was fatally injured at Waterloo Railway Station and that the headstone was erected by his comrades at LSWR (London & South Western Railway). So at some stage he must have moved railway companies, i.e. from the GWR to the LSWR. What sort of accident was it?
